Prepping Your home for winter.

Updated: Dec 6, 2022

With the seasons changing, there's no better time like the present to make sure your home is ready for winter. Here are a few maintenance tasks you can do now to insure your home is ready for the colder months.

Check your roof.

It is important to check to make sure there are no missing, cracked or curled shingles, which can lead to a leaky roof come spring.

Clean out your gutters.

The gutters are your roofs drainage system, used to divert water from the exterior of your home, protecting your foundation and walls. It is vital to make sure your gutters are clear and free of any debris build up, especially in the autumn with all of the falling leaves. Always make sure your gutters are flowing freely.

Furnace check.

Once the cold weather approaches, it’s a good idea to have your heating system inspected by a professional. If you notice any unusual noises, or erratic behavior, or that your heating system seems to be not working properly at any time of year, you may want to have a professional take a look.

Prep your lawn.

Raking your leaves and aerating will prevent your lawn from suffocating during winter. Fall is also a great time to fertilize your grass, trees and shrubs to keep them properly nourished.

Gas heater maintenance.

It is important year round to insure your gas heater is in good working order for safety, and cost reasons. It is a good idea to have a professional look over your heater annually before using it for the winter months. when the heater is not in use you can occasionally check for, and vacuum, any dirt or debris you see from the vents, air passages and even the burner itself.

Tackling these simple pre-winter tasks in the fall can help prevent issues later in the season. The majority can be done by homeowners, or if you're interested in a property manager to take care of them feel free to contact us at info@luxestaff.com.
