As we step out of 2020 and collectively take a sigh of relief, let’s take a moment to congratulate ourselves on the challenges we’ve overcome.
As we step out of 2020 and collectively take a sigh of relief, let’s take a moment to congratulate ourselves on the challenges we’ve overcome. That resilience and strength is exactly what will hold us accountable as we endeavour to make positive changes in 2021. Setting aside some time to reflect on the past year will help highlight what did and did not work for us. There are most likely some areas that already stand out, ones that have room for improvement or fine tuning. We’ve certainly learnt a lot from 2020, so let us apply those lessons as the building blocks of this new year that is upon us. Being proactive and intentional about these changes will keep us empowered. This confidence will motivate us to actively create the future we desire, the one we deserve. One that fuels us and inspires us to show up for ourselves and our community.
Invest In Yourself Start by thinking big and jotting down both short and long term aspirations. Articulate what each one looks and feels like, including these details will help us remember why we chose to pursue it. Including the ‘why’ will act as motivation when things get hard and if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that - we can do hard things! Decide On The How Once the vision is clear about what we want for our future selves, it’s time to work back from that goal and plot in the steps to get there. Breaking out the small steps will act as checkpoints along the way. Tracking these small wins will allow us to stay connected to our vision and celebrate the mini-milestones.
Once goals are broken down and mapped out, be sure to place them front and center! Not only does writing them down give them power but keeping them visible (at your desk or on the fridge) will reinforce our commitment to the change that we’re striving towards. Staying in alignment will keep up our momentum.
Be Consistent As we ease into this new year, let us not be overly ambitious but rather grounded in reality. Not to say that we can’t dream big but staying honest about our timelines and expectations will help to keep our focus. Striving for smaller milestones along will remind us that we are on the right path, that we are capable, that we are positively influencing our vision. Small consistent choices add up, let us strive to do one thing everyday that moves us closer to our goals. Good luck and don’t forget to enjoy the process!
